COLOMBO BACTO START Ammonia is produced by fish in the aquarium. Increased ammonia levels are very harmful to fish and can even cause mortality. In the filter, bacteria convert ammonia into nitrite. Nitrite is also very harmful, but it is in turn converted by bacteria to the harmless nitrate. Check the ammonia – nitrite and nitrate values regularly to make sure your filter is working well.
